Sixth Class visit Cobh for Confirmation Retreat

On Monday 20th of March 2017, Mr Ronan Clancy and 6th Class went on retreat to Cobh to prepare for the Sacrament of Confirmation that the pupils will receive on Tue 4th April.

Staff member Ms Louise O’Driscoll accompanied the group, as did Fr Eamon Roche who directed the retreat. The activities of the day included:

  • Visiting St Benedict’s Priory, Cobh, where they met Mother Catherine, Prioress, who spoke to the pupils about her life as a nun.
  • Praying with St Oliver Plunkett’s relics and hearing the story of this great Irish martyr saint (died 1681)
  • Pondering on the Gospel that will be proclaimed in the Confirmation ceremony (from the Gospel of Matthew, Chapter 6, “Your heavenly Father feeds them…..”
  • Participating in a biblical Treasure Hunt in the bible garden adjacent to St Benedict’s Priory
  • Learning about Eucharistic Adoration and visiting the Adoration Chapel in St Benedict’s Priory
  • Visiting St Colman’s Cathedral, Cobh; viewing some of the stained glass windows there.
  • Praying a full Rosary at St Colman’s Cathedral

The day was blessed with much sunshine and much enjoyment and learning was gained by all pupils. Thank God for a lovely day and the pupils for their willing participation.
